Potenza/Dresden (renewablepress) - VSB Italy is pleased to announce that it has obtained authorisation (Environmental Screening and AU) to develop a cutting-edge agrivoltaic facility in the Ponticelli area of the Umbria region. Covering around 10.6 hectares, the new plant will supply 6.2 MW of clean, renewable energy to the regional grid – equivalent to the needs of around 3,300 people.

This project reflects a strategic emphasis on integrating green technologies with traditional land use, addressing the region’s environmental and socio-economic priorities. While the site will primarily generate solar energy, its design also incorporates a crop rotation system alternating between arable and forage crops. This approach not only supports sustainable agriculture but also enhances soil fertility and promotes biodiversity across the site.

Construction is expected to begin by mid-2026, with commissioning planned for 2027. Given the complexity of grid connection processes, the timeline includes adequate allowances to ensure smooth integration and optimal performance within the local energy network.

“Our goal with this project is to demonstrate how renewable energy can be developed without compromising agricultural productivity, but by complementing and enriching it,” said Francesco Rossi, Managing Director of VSB Italy. “Città della Pieve is a concrete example of how innovative land management can drive both environmental sustainability and rural development.”

Dr Felix Grolman, CEO of VSB Group, adds: “I congratulate our Italian team on this remarkable achievement. This project shows how we can successfully unite renewable energy and agriculture, creating regional value while strengthening VSB’s role as a trusted partner for a sustainable energy future in Europe.”

By advancing this project, VSB Italy underlines its commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions that respect and enhance the characteristics of the territories involved, ultimately fostering resilience and growth in local communities.
