Dresden/Alsfeld (renewablepress) - Global packaging solutions provider Sealed Air has selected VSB Group as its partner for renewable power supply. For its production facility in Alsfeld, Hesse (Germany), the companies have entered into an on-site Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Project developer VSB Integrated Energy Solutions (IES), part of VSB Group and a company of TotalEnergies, will also be responsible for the planning and installation of the 751 kWp rooftop photovoltaic system.

In times of volatile industrial electricity prices, on-site PPAs provide a pragmatic solution for long-term cost security, greater independence from the energy market, and simultaneous CO? reduction. The power purchase agreement with Sealed Air, a global specialist in protective and food packaging solutions, has been concluded for a term of 20 years. Construction of the 751 kWp photovoltaic system is scheduled to commence in spring 2026, with commissioning planned for the second half of the year. The installation will cover approximately 3,300 m² of rooftop space and will supply a substantial share of the facility’s electricity demand through on-site generation.

Frederic Wagner, Managing Director of VSB IES, comments:
“With more than 30 years of experience in renewable energy project development, VSB stands for economic viability, technical expertise, and long-term customer partnerships. We are pleased to support Sealed Air in taking this innovative step toward a more sustainable energy supply.”

Dr Felix Grolman, CEO of VSB Group, adds: “Renewable energy, especially when used for on-site consumption, is a key lever for energy-intensive industries. Companies that generate and use their own green power strengthen their independence, reduce energy costs, and accelerate decarbonisation within their operations. This, in turn, enhances competitiveness for businesses in Germany and across Europe.”

Henrik Schneider, Engineering Manager of Sealed Air Verpackungen GmbH, says: “With the PPA and our dedicated rooftop PV system, we will permanently reduce our energy procurement costs by 15 percent, cut 440 tonnes of CO? annually, and further strengthen our ESG profile. This represents a clear competitive advantage in the packaging industry.”
