Wind power: prices for plants on new low

London, United Kingdom/ New York, USA

This is due to low-cost competitors and an increasing number of orders by Chinese manufacturers according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. The firm reveals that new wind turbines are more efficient. A price dropping of 4% throughout the last six months from EUR 0.91 million/MW (US$ 1.21 million/MW) has been recorded by the Bloomberg New Energy Finance Wind Turbine Price Index (WTPI). Older turbines have seen a strong decline of prices down 10% to EUR 0.85 million/MW (US$ 1.38 million/MW). According to Bloomberg, market players expect the trend to continue in 2012 and 2013.
