Vestas Strengthens Production Presence in Europe: Vestas Acquires Polish Blade Factory from GE Subsidiary LM Wind Power

Aarhus, Denmark – Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas continues to expand its industrial presence in Europe. Together with LM Wind Power, a rotor blade producer owned by the GE Vernova Group, the companies announced that Vestas will acquire the blade factory located in Goleniów, Poland. The purchase price remains undisclosed.

The acquisition is part of Vestas' efforts to strengthen its European production base in order to meet the growing demand for wind energy across the continent. The factory, located near Szczecin, produces blades for Vestas' onshore wind turbines and is expected to continue playing a key role in supplying renewable energy to Poland and Europe.

“Europe needs secure, affordable and sustainable energy more than ever, and we’re pleased to expand our European manufacturing footprint to support wind energy’s growing role in Europe’s energy system”, said Anders Nielsen, Chief Technology and Operations Officer at Vestas. “I want to thank LM Wind Power for their support and collaboration through the years, and we’re very pleased that our respective strategic priorities have made it possible for the factory to continue operating and be part of Vestas’ continued growth in Europe”, he added.

LM Wind Power also sees the transaction as a strategic move. Hanif Mashal, CEO of LM Wind Power, stated: “This proposed transaction is a strategic move for LM Wind Power and GE Vernova. This transaction would enable us to simplify our business and reinvest capital into our core European Union manufacturing facilities producing GE Vernova wind products to better serve our loyal customer base in EU”.

The blade factory was established in 2009 and expanded in 2017. It will continue to supply blades for Vestas’ onshore solutions, including for the V172-7.2 MW turbine. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
