Year-End Sprint: Nordex and Vestas Secure New Major Projects in Europe and Overseas Just Before Christmas - Shares Fail to Benefit

Münster (Germany) - Just before the end of the year, the two wind turbine manufacturers Nordex and Vestas report receiving major orders. Nordex scores with projects in Canada and Germany, while Vestas secures orders for projects in Brazil and Finland. The deals highlight the ongoing investment momentum in the global wind energy market.

While Nordex strengthens its onshore business with repowering projects and international orders, Vestas reports one of Brazil’s largest wind projects in years, along with several new orders in Northern Europe. Both manufacturers are clearly in order-taking mode just before Christmas. However, the stock prices of the two companies listed in the renewable energy stock index RENIXX World do not reflect any benefit.

Nordex - Major Order for Growth Market Canada and Repowering Project in NRW This week (calendar week 51/25), the Nordex Group has reported two new orders with a total capacity of more than 300 MW. One focus is the Canadian market: Nordex has received its first order from the province of New Brunswick. Nordex will deliver 34 turbines of the type N163/5.X with a total capacity of 200 MW. The order also includes a 30-year service contract. The turbines will be delivered in the cold climate version and are scheduled to be installed on 125-meter-high steel tube towers from mid-2027.

North America therefore remains an important growth market for the Hamburg-based manufacturer. “In recent years, the Nordex Group has seen remarkable and continuous growth in its activities in Canada. As Canada increasingly prioritizes renewable energy to meet its climate commitments, our turbines designed for cold climates are ideally suited,” said Manav Sharma, CEO North America of the Nordex Group. The names of the customer and the wind farm have not been disclosed.

Nordex has also received another order for a large project in Germany. As part of a repowering project, the wind turbine manufacturer will deliver a total of 16 wind turbines with a capacity of 106.8 MW for Bürgerwind Hollich GmbH & Co. KG. Twelve turbines of the type N163/6.X on 164-meter-high hybrid towers and four turbines of the type N149/5.X will be used. A long-term maintenance contract of 25 years is also included in the order.

Repowering is an important lever for the energy transition in Germany, as existing sites can be used more efficiently. For Nordex, the order also strengthens its regional presence. The wind farm site is located near the service location in Steinfurt, allowing for short response times. The first new turbine is expected to start generating electricity in spring 2027.

“Among other reasons, our decision in favor of Nordex was based on many years of positive experience in project implementation and service, the advanced turbine technology, and our trust in this manufacturer. I would especially like to highlight the constructive approach during the extensive contract negotiations, where both parties interacted as equals,” said Jörg Tiemann, Managing Director of the Bürgerwindpark-Hollich Group, about the order award.

Vestas - Major Projects in Brazil and New Momentum in Finland

Vestas also reports major orders just before the end of the year. The standout is a new mega-order with a total capacity of 828 MW for the Dom Inocêncio wind complex. The site is located in the Brazilian state of Piauí, which is known for its excellent wind resources. The project is one of the largest wind farms in the country and marks, according to Vestas, “the first major step in the Brazilian wind market since 2023.”

For the project, Vestas will supply 184 turbines of the type V150-4.5 MW. In addition to delivery and construction, the Danish company will also operate and maintain the turbines under a 25-year service contract. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with full commissioning in 2028. The investment volume exceeds 5 billion BRL.

“This new agreement is yet another demonstration of our commitment to supporting the expansion of Brazil’s renewable energy matrix. In addition to driving the country’s energy transition, our investment will also significantly boost the socio-economic development of the region,” said Lucas Araripe, Executive Director of Casa dos Ventos. “Receiving Casa dos Ventos’ trust once again for a project of this magnitude is a great source of pride for us. Casa dos Ventos is a key player in expanding renewable generation in Brazil. It is an honor to support a partner that shares the same ambition,” added Eduardo Ricotta, Vestas Latin America President.

In addition, Vestas strengthens its position in Northern Europe: In Finland, the company received three orders with a total capacity of 277 MW from OX2 AB. The projects will use EnVentus turbines of the V162 series and come with 25-year service contracts. Delivery and commissioning are planned from 2027.

Orders Without Noticeable Impact on Nordex and Vestas Stock Prices

This morning, the shares of the two RENIXX companies were slightly lower. There are no visible effects from the new major orders. Nordex shares are currently trading at €29.16, representing an impressive annual performance of 157.4%. Vestas is currently at €22.71, a 72.6% increase compared to the price at the beginning of the year.
