Acceptance in Focus: Windpark Teschendorf by Energiequelle combines CO2-free power generation with direct citizen participation
Teschendorf (Germany) - Energiequelle GmbH has officially commissioned a new wind farm in Teschendorf, Lower Saxony, featuring five Enercon turbines of the E 138 type. Each turbine has a capacity of 4.2 megawatts, resulting in a total wind farm capacity of 21 MW.
According to Energiequelle, the project’s implementation was lengthy: the regional planning phase took ten years, followed by a two-year zoning procedure. Construction work began in June 2024, and the project was completed as planned in October 2025.
In addition to contributing to the energy transition, the wind farm provides financial benefits for the region. A total of around three million euros will flow to the city of Wittingen and the surrounding districts of Teschendorf, Küstorf, Schneflingen, and Mahnburg. Of this, around 120,000 euros per year go to the municipality under § 6 of the Renewable Energy Act (EEG), while the Energiequelle Foundation provides an additional 15,000 euros per year. Furthermore, a 200-euro electricity bonus per household is granted to registered local residents over ten years – for approximately 180 households, this amounts to around 360,000 euros.
The Teschendorf wind farm serves as an example of successful acceptance work: transparent information and direct financial participation of residents are seen as key factors for local support of wind energy projects. Project manager Tina Hermerding also emphasizes the importance of involving the community: “In order to create acceptance for projects in the field of renewable energies, it is important to involve people and the community financially.”
