Enertrag Builds 4-Hour Storage System: Enertrag Receives Green Light for 200 MW Battery Storage Project in Bertikow
Dauerthal (Germany) - Enertrag has reached an important milestone in the development of the battery storage project at the Bertikow substation. The local municipality has granted its approval, thereby creating a key prerequisite for the continued implementation of the project. The decision was preceded by an intensive dialogue process between the company and the municipality of Uckerfelde.
The municipal council made its decision after a comprehensive assessment of opportunities and risks. Both the significance of the project for the energy transition and the interests of the municipality were taken into account. The granted approval is regarded as a signal of constructive cooperation between the municipality and the project developer.
The planned battery storage system will have a power capacity of 200 MW and an energy capacity of 800 MWh. The 4-hour storage system will be a central component of the Enertrag hybrid power plant and will help balance fluctuations from wind and solar generation. In addition, the facility is expected to provide important ancillary services for grid stability and security of supply. Commissioning is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027.
For the region, the project will provide additional flexibility in the power system as well as the ability to store electricity generated from renewable sources and feed it back into the grid as needed. Enertrag announced that it will continue to implement the further planning steps and construction preparations in close coordination with the municipality.
