CATL Unveils Battery Innovations for Electric Cars: CATL Launches new Battery Series with up to 1,500 km Range and 6-Minute Charging Time

Ningde (China) - The Chinese battery manufacturer CATL has surprised the industry with the presentation of a new generation of electric vehicle batteries.

At the center of the presentation, held during a technology event in Beijing, were several battery series designed for different vehicle classes. A new high-energy battery (“Condensed Battery”) is primarily intended for larger vehicles. These include luxury sedans and SUVs, for which ranges of up to 1,500 kilometers are said to be possible, according to the company. In more realistic configurations - such as with heavier vehicles - a lower but still significantly increased range is expected.

At the same time, CATL introduced an upgraded fast-charging battery from its “Shenxing” series. This is aimed primarily at high-volume passenger cars in the mass market, particularly compact and mid-size vehicles. Under optimal conditions, an extremely short charging time of around six minutes is said to be achievable, bringing electric vehicles functionally closer to traditional combustion-engine cars.

According to its own statements and industry reports, CATL supplies numerous international automotive manufacturers, including both premium brands and large-scale producers. The new battery systems are therefore not limited to a single model but are designed as platform solutions for various vehicle classes - from everyday cars to large long-distance vehicles.

With the differentiation into multiple battery series, CATL is specifically addressing different market requirements: maximum range for large vehicles on the one hand, and ultra-fast charging for mass-market passenger cars on the other.
