Nordex Launches Rotor Blade Production in Türkiye and Expands Manufacturing Base for Europe
Hamburg/Izmir – The Nordex Group has started production at its new rotor blade manufacturing facility in Menemen near Izmir, Türkiye, further expanding its industrial manufacturing base for the onshore wind market. The site is intended to supply both the Turkish market and, in the future, European wind energy projects. Shares of Nordex, which is listed in the RENIXX index, were trading 1.78 percent lower at EUR 43.16 in today’s session.
Türkiye Gains Importance for Nordex as a Manufacturing and Growth Hub
At the Menemen site, Nordex is producing rotor blades for its current N163 and N175 turbine models. These turbines are designed for medium to high wind sites and are among the company’s core platforms in the onshore segment.
Initially, the facility will supply rotor blades for projects awarded under Türkiye’s YEKA tenders, including YEKA-4 and YEKA-5. At the same time, the site is strategically positioned to support exports to Europe. With this move, Nordex is responding to the sustained high demand for wind turbines as well as the growing need for regional supply chains and local value creation.
Expansion of Local Value Creation and European Supply Chains
Nordex CEO José Luis Blanco described the start of production as “important milestone in strengthening Nordex’s manufacturing footprint in Türkiye.” By expanding local production capacities, the company can “better meet the local content requirements under the YEKA specifications.”
Türkiye is considered one of Nordex’s most important growth markets in the onshore wind sector. The company has been active there since 2009 and says it has established itself as the market leader since 2017, with a market share of around 34 percent.
Rotor Blade Plant Strengthens International Supply Capabilities
With the new rotor blade facility, Nordex is also expanding its international production and supply structure. In addition to serving the Turkish market, the plant is expected to support European wind energy projects in the future and strengthen supply capabilities within the European wind industry.
The Nordex Group is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of onshore wind turbines. The company employs around 11,100 people worldwide and operates production facilities in Germany, Spain, Brazil, India, the United States, and Türkiye.
