Scatec Commissions 142 MW Rio Urucuia Solar Park in Brazil, Share Up 6.9 Percent for the Week
Oslo/Belo Horizonte — Renewable power producer Scatec ASA has brought the 142 MW Rio Urucuia solar park in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais into commercial operation. The project is Scatec's third solar plant in Brazil and brings the Norwegian company's total installed capacity in the country to 835 MW.
„We are pleased to begin generating electricity from our third solar project in Brazil, expanding our power generation in the country. As our first plant in the southeast submarket, where power demand is strong, Rio Urucuia is diversifying our Brazilian footprint,” said Terje Pilskog, CEO of Scatec.
According to the company, the solar park will avoid around 21,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. Scatec currently holds 100 percent of the project but intends to bring in equity partners in the future. The company will handle operation, maintenance and asset management itself.
Investors reacted positively to the start of operations. Scatec ASA shares, listed on the RENIXX World, gained 1.7 percent to EUR 8.82 on Friday, bringing the stock's weekly gain to 6.9 percent.
