Storage Solutions Against Negative Power Prices: Enercon Signs First Own Wind+ Storage Projects with Planungsbüro Düser
Aurich/Ense (Germany) — Enercon has signed contracts with Planungsbüro Düser GmbH for the first two projects under its own Wind+ Storage brand, which combines wind turbines with battery storage systems and intelligent hybrid control. The move comes as increasingly volatile power prices and periods of negative pricing, driven by high renewable feed-in, put pressure on the economics of standalone wind farm projects.
Wind+ Storage: Battery Storage and Hybrid Control for Wind Farms
Enercon launched its Wind+ Storage offering for the German market in September 2025. It combines wind power, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and intelligent hybrid control for new and existing wind farms equipped with Enercon turbines, aiming to unlock more flexible revenue streams, reduce curtailment and provide system services. According to the company, Enercon draws on more than 15 years of experience with hybrid projects. The two new orders are, according to Enercon, the first projects signed under the Wind+ Storage brand in Germany.
At Möhnesee-Westrich, the storage unit is coupled to the wind farm and connected to two E-138 EP3 E3 turbines with a combined capacity of 8.52 MW. In Soest-Meiningsen, an E-138 EP3 E3 turbine already in operation since 2026 and an E-160 EP5 E3 turbine planned for 2028 will be integrated, with a combined capacity of 9.82 MW; the storage system there is more strongly geared toward grid- and market-oriented applications.
Partnership with Regional Planning Firm
Enercon's contract partner is Planungsbüro Düser GmbH, an independent engineering firm based in Ense that specializes in wind energy and supports renewable energy projects from permitting through technical infrastructure to long-term operation, both independently and together with local partners. Enercon convinced the firm with its combination of wind power, storage and intelligent control, said Managing Director Andreas Düser, who added that the partnership-based exchange had been particularly valuable. "Together, we were able to develop a solution that fits our technical requirements and our economic objectives," said Andreas Düser, Managing Director of Planungsbüro Düser GmbH.
For Enercon, the two projects mark a step in expanding its solutions portfolio around onshore wind energy. In both projects, the company is acting as EPC partner — covering engineering, procurement and construction — and is responsible for key services including project coordination, integration, installation and commissioning, as well as profitability calculations and the hybrid controller used to manage wind power and storage. Wind+ Storage creates new opportunities for customers to develop wind farm projects with a stronger grid and market orientation, said Andreas Henig, Executive Vice President BU Wind at Enercon.
The joint step with Planungsbüro Düser GmbH is "is a strong sign of trust, openness to innovation and partnership-based collaboration," said Andreas Henig, Executive Vice President BU Wind at Enercon, noting that hybrid projects are technically, regulatorily and commercially demanding, which is why experience, systems understanding and strong partners are essential.
