Encavis Expands Storage Business: Encavis Realizes First Utility-Scale Battery Storage Project in Italy

Hamburg — Encavis is expanding its Italian portfolio with its first utility-scale battery storage system. The standalone facility in the municipality of Ceprano, in the Lazio region, will have a capacity of around 65 MW and 260 MWh, with commissioning planned for 2028.

The seller is ReFeel New Energy, an Italian project developer backed by Gresham House Europe — formerly SUSI Partners, part of Gresham House since January 2026 — and the ReFeel Group. ReFeel New Energy operates as a joint venture with the SUSI Energy Transition Fund and is already active in Italy with several solar and storage projects.

"With Ceprano, we are realising our first large-scale battery storage project in Italy and adding an important element of flexibility to our existing solar portfolio," said Mario Schirru, CEO of Encavis.

On the generation side, Encavis is already well established in Italy. With around 420 MW of installed PV capacity, the company ranks among the country's leading independent solar power producers, according to the company. In early 2026, Encavis also secured contracts for around 3.7 TWh under the Energy Release 2.0 program, accounting for more than 16 percent of the total volume awarded. The program requires the construction of new solar, wind, or hydropower capacity; battery storage does not qualify under its rules. Encavis does not yet operate any storage systems in Italy, unlike in Germany and the Netherlands, where it already does.
