Wpd Concludes Next Electricity Supply Contract in Poland

Bremen, Germany - Bremen-based project developer and operator of wind and solar parks Wpd has recently reported repeatedly on the successful financing of green power projects through long-term power supply contracts or Power Purchase Agreements (PPA). Wpd has now concluded a further PPA in Poland.

PPA partner for Wpd is ENGIE Zielona Energia Sp. z o.o., a wholly owned subsidiary of the French energy supply group ENGIE SA, for two wind farm projects in Poland with a total output of 87.5 megawatts (MW). The PPA was signed between the project companies of Wpd-owned onshore wind farms "Jarocin Kozmin" and "Slupca-Kolaczkowo" and the Polish ENGIE subsidiary. The agreement covers 100 percent of the projects' electricity generation. The companies have not yet provided further details on the term of the PPA.

The two Wpd wind farms will be built in the western centre of Poland, in the Wielkopolskie voivodeship. The site of the "Jarocin Kozmin" project is located approximately 11 km southeast of the city of Jarocin and consists of 17 wind turbines (WTG) of the type GE 2.5-120 with a hub height of 120 m and will have a capacity of 42.5 MW. The " Slupca-Kolaczkowo" wind farm, located about 60 km east of the city of Poznan, will comprise 15 WTGs of the Vestas 3.0-117 type with a hub height of 141 m, which will have a total installed capacity of 45 MW. According to Wpd, the combined annual energy generated by the two projects corresponds to the annual consumption of about 100,000 households. Construction work for both projects began in the first quarter of 2020 (Q1/2020), and the first WTGs are expected to be commissioned in Q3/2020.

"The recent conclusion of a PPA with a well-known company as a partner confirms our commitment, not only to the Polish market for green electricity, but also in the area of direct electricity marketing", says Wilko Schmidt, the Wpd onshore PPA manager responsible for PPAs, welcoming the new power purchase agreement. Wpd is ready for more cooperations of this kind to further support the energy turnaround, Schmidt continued.
