Orders From Poland: Ballard Power to Supply Fuel Cell Modules For More Than 170 Solaris Hydrogen Buses

Vancouver, Canada / Bolechowo, Poland - Ballard Power has received several orders for a total of 177 hydrogen fuel cell modules from its long-time customer Solaris Bus & Coach.

The Polish company, which is one of Europe's leading bus manufacturers, is deploying the hydrogen-powered city buses in several European countries. Some of the 177 fuel cell engines are to be delivered before the end of 2023, with the remaining fuel cells scheduled for delivery between 2024 and 2026.

The orders include the delivery of fuel cell modules for the largest announced deployment of a fleet of fuel cell city buses in Europe to date, involving 127 Solaris buses to be deployed in Bologna, Italy. Ballard Power has also received orders for an additional 50 modules for fuel cell buses in Germany and Italy. The volume of fuel cell modules ordered by Solaris since the beginning of the year now exceeds 270, a significant increase over the more than 140 fuel cell city buses Solaris has deployed with customers in Europe to date.

"We’re thrilled to see the continued success of our partner Solaris as they secure tender wins for fuel cell city bus deployments in Europe", said David Mucciacciaro, Ballard Power's chief commercial officer, welcoming the new orders. "There is growing interest in Europe for larger deployments of zero-emission, fuel cell electric buses that offer range, refueling time, and operating rhythm consistent with legacy diesel bus experience, while also avoiding the challenges and costs associated with scaling recharging infrastructure for larger fleets of battery electric buses," Mucciacciaro added.

Ballard Power's shares are benefiting, gaining 8.7 percent in the first three days of trading this trading week to a price of 3.61 euros (Oct. 11, 2023, closing price, Stuttgart Stock Exchange).
