Emerging Battery Storage Market in Poland: Goldbeck Solar Constructs 8-MW BESS in Przeworsk
Komorniki (Poland) - The battery storage market in Poland is still in its early stages. With the growing feed-in of renewable energy, the demand for flexibility solutions and grid-supporting storage is steadily increasing. At the same time, a dynamic market development is emerging.
Large-Scale Battery Storage in Przeworsk Reaches Financial Close
The expansion of battery storage in Poland is taking concrete shape: Goldbeck Solar Polska has signed an EPC turnkey contract for a battery storage system (BESS) in southeastern Przeworsk near Rzeszów, with a capacity of 8 MW and an energy storage of 16 MWh. The project has reached financial close, securing the necessary funding. Construction is planned to start in the second quarter of 2026, with commissioning expected between the first and second quarters of 2027.
Under the EPC contract, Goldbeck Solar Polska is responsible for the complete implementation of the project - from planning and procurement to construction, grid connection, system integration, and commissioning. The system will be realized as a standalone, grid-connected BESS and is expected to be one of the first projects of its kind in the country.
Technically, the project comprises four battery containers. The infrastructure also includes two PCS units with transformers and a dedicated auxiliary transformer station. In addition, the site will feature a medium-voltage cable connection, internal access roads, security and lighting systems, as well as noise protection measures.
The client is LC Energia, a company majority-owned by Low Carbon. The project is being implemented in cooperation with the developer Evercon and the energy trading firm InCommodities.
Battery Storage as a Key Technology for Grid Stability
With the Przeworsk project, the Polish market for stationary energy storage is gaining further momentum. As renewable energy feed-in continues to grow, the demand for flexibility options and balancing services is increasing. Battery storage is considered a central technology for stabilizing the power grid.
“ Battery storage will play a key role in strengthening grid stability and supporting the continued growth of renewable energy in Poland,” says Steffen Emmerich, Managing Director of Goldbeck Solar Polska. “We are proud to support LC Energia in delivering one of the early standalone BESS projects in the Polish market and to contribute our EPC expertise to this important step in the country’s energy transition.”
Once operational, the system will provide grid-supporting functions, including the provision of balancing energy and flexibility services. At the same time, it will support the integration of variable energy sources such as wind and solar into the national grid.
The project also highlights the growing role of experienced EPC contractors in delivering bankable storage infrastructure. As the market matures, Poland’s battery storage sector is expected to develop dynamically - also in the context of regulatory adjustments and increasing investment in renewable energy.
The Przeworsk battery storage facility thus represents another building block in the transformation of Poland’s energy system toward greater flexibility, supply security, and decarbonization.
