Dauerthal (renewablepress) - With the notarised signing of the purchase agreement for a 6.5-hectare site in the Berlin-Szczecin Industrial Park, ENERTRAG has reached a significant milestone in the realisation of its hydrogen project in Pasewalk. One of the first large-scale hydrogen plants in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is to be built on the site.

The agreement was signed on 24 June 2025 by Mayor Danny Rodewald, Deputy Mayor Marko Schmidt and Elgin Knop, the head of the relevant department for real estate. ENERTRAG was represented by Michael Westphal and Branko Swierczek, managing directors of ENERTRAG Landgesellschaft, and project manager Tim Pawlowski from ENERTRAG SE.

The planned hydrogen plant is part of the European IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) funding programme and will be connected to the future German hydrogen core network. The first phase of construction will have an electrolysis capacity of 60 megawatts – enough to produce around 6,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. In a second phase, the plant can be expanded to a total of 180 megawatts. The project will thus make a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of industry and to sustainable energy supply in north-east Germany.

Michael Westphal, Managing Director of ENERTRAG Landgesellschaft:
’This is a milestone in the construction of a hydrogen plant in Pasewalk, which will be one of the first in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This project will not only create new jobs, but also strengthen local economic development and act as a beacon for the region. Our project is another step towards completely replacing fossil fuels.‘

Danny Rodewald, Mayor of Pasewalk:
’With the notarised signing of the purchase agreement, we are setting another milestone for the development of the Berlin-Szczecin industrial park and also for the industrial future of our city. The planned hydrogen plant by ENERTRAG is not only a strong commitment to Pasewalk as a location, but also a catalyst for the entire region. With this company, green electricity will remain where it is produced. We look forward to continuing our trusting cooperation with ENERTRAG and taking joint steps towards a sustainable future.‘

The specific planning progress has already been scheduled: In 2025, the engineering work for the technical design will be commissioned. The first nature conservation measures will begin on the site in August, including the construction of a reptile protection fence. The approval documents are expected to be submitted in the first half of 2026. Construction is scheduled to start in 2027, with commissioning planned for 2029.

With the Pasewalk site, ENERTRAG is consistently pursuing its goal of developing integrated energy infrastructures that combine wind and solar energy with green hydrogen, paving the way for a climate-neutral future.

About ENERTRAG

At ENERTRAG, we have been advancing the energy transition for over 25 years. Our more than 1,000 employees design, build and operate integrated power plants. These are based on combinations of wind turbines, solar installations, our own grid infrastructure, batteries and electrolysers. These technologies provide reliable, on-demand electricity, heat and green hydrogen – completely replacing fossil fuel power plants.

With our own plants, we generate around 2,000 gigawatt hours of electricity from the wind and sun every year and have been producing green hydrogen since 2011. Based on this, we are developing energy projects with a capacity of over 30 gigawatts in nine countries on four continents.

ENERTRAG embodies the global energy supply of the future: sustainable, secure and regionally anchored – protecting our planet for current and future generations.
