Citizens Benefit from Energiequelle Wind Farm: Energiequelle Begins Construction of Five Enercon Turbines in Lower Saxony’s Gifhorn District

Lüben (Germany) - Energiequelle GmbH has begun construction of the Lüben Wind Farm in the village of Lüben, within the municipality of Wittingen in the Gifhorn district of Lower Saxony. Five Enercon turbines of the E-138 model with a hub height of 160 meters are planned. Each turbine has a capacity of 4.26 MW.

According to Energiequelle, the five turbines together are expected to generate around 77 million kilowatt-hours of wind power annually, which corresponds to the electricity needs of approximately 22,000 households.

The park received approval in December 2024, and the Federal Network Agency awarded the contract in the February onshore wind energy tender. Following the completion of preparatory work, construction of access roads is now underway. Commissioning is planned for the second to third quarter of 2027. Lüben is already Energiequelle’s second wind farm within a year in Wittingen. The nearby Teschendorf Wind Farm went into operation last autumn.

Energiequelle is focusing on regional participation for this project: local residents will receive an electricity bonus of 200 euros per year. In addition, 0.2 cents per kilowatt-hour will go to the town of Wittingen, supplemented by 0.1 cents from the new Lower Saxony participation law. Altogether, this amounts to annual revenues of around 231,000 euros. A portion of the landowners’ lease income is planned to flow into a yet-to-be-established association to support local projects.

“The regional planning process lasted more than ten years and required a great deal of patience. I am all the happier that we can now move into the implementation phase,” said Tina Hermerding, Project Manager at Energiequelle. She also emphasized the landowners’ willingness to share revenues for the benefit of the community.
