Juwi and Axsol Deepen Partnership for Battery Storage: Focus on Operation and Optimization of BESS-Projects
Wörrstadt/Würzburg (Germany) - The battery storage market is developing with great momentum. At the same time, the demand for professional operations management is increasing. Juwi and Axsol are now pooling their expertise to implement BESS projects more efficiently and operate them economically over the long term.
Strategic cooperation for a growing BESS market
Juwi GmbH and Axsol GmbH have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, laying the foundation for a strategic partnership in the field of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The goal of the agreement is to intensify cooperation, particularly in the areas of maintenance, service, and technical operations management.
Specifically, Juwi will support EPC provider Axsol in several storage projects. Since spring 2025, Juwi has already been managing an initial project in Osnabrück. The cooperation is now being expanded: for three additional BESS projects with a total capacity of 89 MWh, Juwi will take on responsibilities in service, maintenance, and technical operations management. The project sites are Altencelle in Lower Saxony, Lohsa in Upper Lusatia, and Balzhausen in Swabia. All facilities are scheduled to go into operation within the current year.
According to Juwi, the agreement builds on the initial positive experiences of the collaboration and is intended to further strengthen the partnership. With the additional projects, the battery storage portfolio managed by Juwi will grow to a storage capacity of around 400 MWh.
Oliver Otte, Head of O&M at Juwi, highlights the importance of the partnership: “By combining our accumulated experience in this field, we create significant added value for investors by reliably implementing and operating BESS projects.”
Clear division of roles: construction expertise meets operational know-how
The cooperation follows a clear division of responsibilities along the value chain of battery storage projects. While Axsol contributes its strength in the turnkey delivery of BESS installations, Juwi takes over long-term technical operations management.
Axsol sees this as a decisive advantage for customers and investors. Managing Director Jürgen Zinecker emphasizes: “Delivering BESS projects on a turnkey basis is our core competence - operating them economically over the long term requires a specialized partner. With JUWI, we have found exactly that: an O&M team with proven BESS experience and clearly defined processes.”
For customers, this results in end-to-end project responsibility - from planning and construction to long-term operation. In the context of grid-supporting storage solutions, an integrated approach to project execution and operation can make a significant contribution to economic viability.
Axsol relies on a manufacturer-independent approach and its own energy management system to realize multi-use storage solutions for various applications. Juwi complements this model with its experience in operating complex energy systems.
For both companies, the expanded cooperation represents a strategic step to strengthen their position in the dynamic battery storage market. Given the growing need for flexibility options in the energy system, the importance of such partnerships is likely to continue increasing.
