Deutsche Windtechnik And Japanese Meidensha Corporation Plan Leading Independent Onshore Wind Energy Service Provider

Bremen, Germany / Tokyo, Japan - In Japan, the Japanese government's Strategic Energy Plan defines the expansion of renewable energies. Solar energy and wind energy (onshore and offshore) play a central role. Deutsche Windtechnik wants to help shape the development of the wind service market in Japan.

Deutsche Windtechnik, one of the world's leading independent service providers for wind turbines, announces a consulting agreement with Meidensha Corporation, an innovative Japanese manufacturer of high-performance electrical equipment. The aim of the cooperation is to establish Meidensha as the leading independent service provider (ISP) for onshore wind turbines.

Development of an independent service infrastructure

Deutsche Windtechnik, headquartered in Bremen, already offers the complete package for the technical maintenance of wind turbines from a single source with over 2,000 employees in Europe, the USA and Taiwan.

The current alliance between Deutsche Windtechnik and Meidensha aims to reduce dependence on wind turbine manufacturers and simplify the maintenance of wind farms in Japan, Deutsche Windtechnik AG announced. The introduction of competition and flexibility will strengthen the Japanese wind energy industry in the long term.

Deutsche Windtechnik intends to take on an advisory role and use its expertise to provide Meidensha with pioneering support in establishing an onshore service infrastructure that is independent of the mainland and Europe. This includes Meidensha being able to train qualified technicians for onshore wind turbines and ensure domestic field support. Deutsche Windtechnik also supplies the company with important spare parts ranging from power electronics to large components.

“The cooperation with Meidensha Corporation is a significant step for the Japanese onshore wind energy sector. We support Meidensha to establish itself as the leading ISP in this emerging market. Our two decades of experience and in-depth know-how will enable Meidensha to build a powerful service infrastructure to provide first-class onshore services for wind farm operators in Japan", explains Matthias Brandt, Director at Deutsche Windtechnik.

Developing and strengthening the Japanese wind industry

The cooperation is intended to underline the commitment of both companies to the promotion of sustainable energy in Japan. “We are very pleased to have concluded this consultancy agreement. With the strong support of Deutsche Windtechnik, we hope to become a leading onshore ISP contributing to the expansion of renewable energy in Japan”, says Shinichiro Kon, Managing Executive Officer of Meidensha Power Infrastructure Business Group.

This expansion was set out in Japan's Strategic Energy Plan in 2021. It aims to achieve a 36 to 38 percent share of renewable energy by 2030 and reduce CO2 emissions by 46 percent (compared to 2013).
